Narva, Estonia - third prize winning competition entry
The competition was organized by the city government of Narva, the Cultural Endowment of Estonia and the Union of Estonian Architects.
The Peetri Plats, close to the historical bastion, one of the most important places in Narva, formed the centre of the competition, with a 2500 sqm hotel, additional public program, and commercial edifices, city park-and square.
Our scheme proposes to use the landscape to defragmentize the area and bring in new coherence, shifting the emphasis around the square from motorized traffic towards the pedestrian, while adding new program. An artificial landscaped park with differing-height rigid folds and valleys is placed over relocated parking and other more urban-city facilities, which connect to the existing public surfaces as the square and bastion.
